Fifty-Five First Pitches

Selects from a summer with the Chatham Anglers, a collegiate summer baseball team that competes in the East Division of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

The Anglers had an unprecedented season. Not only did they work their way to the top to become the East Division Champions for the first time since 2001, the A’s were also managed by a new coaching staff for the first time since 1993 after the retirement of Coach John Shiffner, the winningest coach in the history of the Cape League. In 2018, the Chatham Anglers. under the leadership of Manager Tom Holliday, had to prove they still had it in themselves to win without “Schiff”, and that they did.

The Anglers fought their way to the Cape Cod Baseball League Championship Final. The college baseball stars held their own until game three of the series against the Wareham Gatemen until eventually falling just short of the championship title. Despite this loss, they carried through to the end with high energy, technical skill, and true Chatham Pride.
